Our culture

More thanlawyers.

The traditional way of practicing law is obsolete. We are a group of forward-thinking professionals who created a new kind of law firm, built on a more passionate and more personal way of practicing law.

Philosophy

Our core philosophy is that people matter more than processes.

People before processesAtty. Emily Sampedro

We have excellent people who work together as a dream team. Thanks to this approach, we are a more flexible, fun, stimulating, creative, collaborative and successful organization.

Like every great company, we hire the best professionals in their field and value integrity, excellence, respect, inclusion and collaboration. What makes us special is that we put seven behaviors into practice:

The 7 behaviors

They are not on the wall. They are in how we work every day, on every case and with every client.

Behavior 01

We decide independently.

We encourage every team member to make decisions independently.

In practice: every decision has an informed captain; leaders provide context, not control.

Behavior 02

Open information.

We share information openly, clearly and deliberately.

In practice: information reaches whoever needs it to decide well, without filters or hierarchies.

Behavior 03

Candid, always.

We are candid with one another.

In practice: you only say about your colleagues what you would say to their face.

Behavior 04

Only effective people.

We only work with effective people.

In practice: a dream team, where every person is extraordinary in their position.

Behavior 05

Real flexibility.

We seek flexibility.

In practice: less bureaucracy and more judgment to solve problems better and faster.

Behavior 06

Relentless against corruption.

We are relentless against corruption and lack of security.

In practice: zero tolerance on ethics and strict controls over our clients’ information.

Behavior 07

Gender perspective.

We work with a gender perspective.

In practice: equal pay for work of equal value, and zero tolerance for gender-based violence.

Authentic values

Values we live, not values we hang.

Many law firms have value statements, but they are often vague and stay on the wall. A company’s real values show in who gets recognized and who is let go. The more they resonate with you, and describe the people you like to work with, the more likely you are to thrive at Fexlaw.

  • You consistently demonstrate strong performance so colleagues can rely on you.
  • You make your colleagues better.
  • You focus on results over process.
Constructive feedback, every day. It is easy to write admirable values; the hard part is living them. That is why constructive feedback is not an occasional formal exercise but a constant part of how we communicate. Our leaders show that no one is infallible, and the question colleagues often ask each other is: “What could I be doing better?”

Dream team

A professional legal team, not a family.

A dream team is one where all your colleagues are extraordinary at what they do and collaborate very effectively. As on a professional team, every player must be great in their position and play well with the others.

* We mean the team of your dreams, not the 2001 national football team.

No “brilliant jerks”

The cost to teamwork is too high. Brilliant people are also capable of treating others with respect, and we insist on it.

We don’t count hours

Excellence takes effort, but we measure a person’s contribution by their results, not by the hours they spend working.

We can always improve

We trust ourselves, but we long to get better. We are nothing compared to what we want to become.

Sports

The same spirit, outside the office.

A dream team’s discipline is also trained. As the Fexlaw team we have run, swum and cycled in more than ten ultra-endurance competitions in Ecuador: triathlons, open-water swims, and mountain and road cycling races.
