Tracing unusual payments

We gathered accounting and treasury information (reconciliations, transactions and supporting documents) to trace unusual payments to personal accounts and unauthorized third parties. We valued the impact of the fraud to support a fraud insurance policy claim and entered a technical expert report into the proceeding.

Breach of trust against the parent company

Using data on cost of sales, payroll, capital contributions and key suppliers, we substantiated a breach of trust and a diversion of funds not authorized by the parent company, which created tax and criminal exposure for the company's officers in Ecuador.

09 / Frequently asked questions

What clients often ask us.

General answers to common questions. Every company is different: write to us so we can review your situation.

01

What is forensic accounting?

It is the application of accounting, financial and investigative techniques to analyze economic events so that the results can be used in a dispute, a claim or a court proceeding.

02

How does it differ from a traditional financial audit?

A traditional audit gives an opinion on whether the financial statements are fairly presented. A forensic audit seeks to answer specific questions about a possible fraud or loss: what happened, how, who benefited and how much was lost, to a standard designed to serve as evidence.

03

When should you engage a forensic analysis?

When there are suspicions of internal fraud, diversion of funds or unusual payments; when your company is preparing a claim against its insurer; or when it faces or anticipates litigation in which the figures will be decisive. If the case involves a scam or external fraud, we work alongside our Scams and Financial Fraud practice.

04

Can the forensic report be used in a criminal proceeding?

Yes. The findings can serve as the basis for a criminal complaint and for the work of experts within the proceeding. We coordinate with our Criminal Law practice so that the evidence meets procedural requirements.

05

What information does the company need to provide?

It depends on the case, but it usually includes accounting and treasury records, bank reconciliations, payroll records, contracts and supplier documentation. At the initial meeting we will tell you what we need and how to protect its confidentiality.
