10 / Frequently asked questions

What clients often ask us.

General answers to common questions. Every company is different: write to us so we can review your situation.

01

What does sports law cover?

It brings together the rules governing sporting activity: contracts for athletes and coaches, transfers, image rights, sponsorships, club licensing, federation and league regulations, disciplinary regimes and dispute resolution. It combines national law with the rules of each sports organization.

02

Who resolves sports disputes in Ecuadorian football?

Depending on the subject matter and the competition, the Disciplinary Commission of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) or the LigaPro Disciplinary Committee. Where the applicable bylaws and regulations allow it, certain decisions may be taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). We review your case to determine the right path and deadlines.

03

What should a club review before signing or transferring a player?

The player's contractual status, the financial terms, the termination clauses, image rights, the involvement of agents and the regulatory requirements of the federation or league. Because athletes' contracts are also employment relationships, we coordinate with our labor law practice when needed.

04

How can an athlete protect and monetize their image rights?

Through clear contracts that define what use is authorized, to whom, for how long, in which territories and in exchange for what. A sound structure prevents conflicts with clubs and sponsors and protects the athlete's commercial value.

05

What can a league or rights holder do about broadcast piracy?

There are criminal, civil and administrative avenues to stop illegal broadcasts and pursue those responsible. The strategy depends on how the piracy operates in each case; our anti-piracy practice designs it together with you.
